Shawn has 19 years of higher education leadership serving public two and four-year (single and multi-campus) institutions. She has served in the most innovative and entrepreneurial offices in higher education leading multi-million dollar operations while ensuring the success of those she served. She has built collaborative teams, led start-up and revitalization efforts, led concurrent enrollment, workforce development, continuing education, graduate, extended studies and study abroad efforts. She has also led access, persistence and retention efforts to ensure student success, led diversity and inclusion events, acquired funding for new technologies, led new program and product development for domestic and international audiences (youth to adult learners), built strategic relationships with companies (small to fortune 500), not-for-profit, educational and government entities and served as a consultant across the disciplines. Past senior appointments have provided Shawn with opportunities to serve on presidential advisory councils, dean councils, multi-campus strategic planning councils, lead and co-lead the planning for signature events, lead strategic marketing and communications efforts and facilitate multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams. She is a skilled business developer, community engager, trainer/educator and complex problem solver with a passion for business, technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, strategic and organizational communications, marketing and higher education. She is intentional and skilled at envisioning a path forward; architecting strategic and tactical solutions while connecting people, ideas, resources and technology. Shawn is the founder of MasterClass (#CoLabMasters), co-founder of CoLab Talks (#CoLabTalks), co-founder of Johnson County Community College’s Student Agency and has extensive training in leadership, strategic management, marketing and communications, project management and organizational development. She received a Master of Science from the University of Central Missouri in Educational Technology and a Bachelors of Education. Shawn has taken additional training in contract negotiation and has earned additional certificates rounding out her experience in Business Leadership, Program Management and Program Planning (10 competency areas including: Overview and History of the Field, Teaching and Learning, Needs Assessments, Program Development, Finance and Budgeting, Program Analysis, Pricing, Marketing, Brochures & Promotion and Customer Service). She is currently the Director of the Collaboration Center (CoLab) at Johnson County Community College. The CoLab is an active learning environment offering more than 31,000 patrons an array of resources – signature programming, imaginative co-working spaces, advanced technology, technical support, research assistance and event coordination all focused on faculty, staff and student success. She serves on the executive advisory and core implementation team for JCCC’s Student Agency serving residents throughout Johnson County.
